“IT’S AN HONOUR TO OFFER OUR VERSION OF CATERING: EXCEPTIONAL LOCAL PRODUCTS, PREPARED AND SERVED BY DEVOTED CHEFS WITHIN A VIRTUOUS ECOSYSTEM,” EXPLAINS CHRISTIAN VOLMERANGE, NOVAE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.
Open to the public 7 days a week from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Café Byron (at Chillon Castle in Veytaux) offers a variety of muffins, brownies, pies, open-faced and closed sandwiches, and drinks.
Grab a bite to eat before or after a visit to the thousand-year-old fortress, or enjoy a stroll in the gardens or along the quays while the Chef prepares a selection of salad “bowls” and soups, or grills dishes inspired by regional and seasonal produce — such as the Maistre Chiquart burger, created to pay homage to the Duke of Savoy’s master chef, made with Swiss beef and Etivaz cheese. Throughout the week, the variety of daily specials delights even our most faithful clients and, on weekends, meat is grilled on a spit at a real bargain for less than twenty francs! Kids will also find what they are looking for on the “Little Knight” menu, designed especially for them.
The wine list? Local, of course! The Château’s vineyard produces Clos de Chillon, Grand Cru, a white that comes from a magnificent Chasselas, as well as red its own special wine made from a blend of red gamaret, garanoir and merlot grapes. About forty wine barrels can be found in the first room along the underground passage of the castle where Bonivard was chained, the hero in the famous poem “The Prisoner of Chillon” by Lord Byron to whom we also owe the name of the café. Nestled between the lake and the mountains, the bay windows and terrace allow guests to bathe in the ambience of this historic landmark and to enjoy a picturesque view. Created by Dreier Frenzel Architecture, Café Byron has become another good reason to extend a visit to Château de Chillon ™.
